We deeply mourn the sudden and untimely passing of Dr Kumar Akhilesh (5 January 1975 – 25 September 2026), our beloved Director, mentor, teacher, friend. A leading prehistorian of global repute, he dedicated his life towards establishing our Centre with all its diverse activities. An expert lithic expert and knapper, he was passionate about prehistory as also science communication. We pledge to dedicate our Centre to continuing with his legacy and keeping his research and dreams alive. We dedicate our lab: “Dr Kumar Akhilesh Memorial Prehistory and Experimental Archaeology Centre” in his memory. We are also announcing new programs in his memory as also a commemoration volume.

Down Ancient Trails
Down Ancient Trails is a forum of the Sharma Centre for Heritage Education for online discussions, workshops, lectures, and activities on topics related to archaeology and associated Quaternary sciences. It began with the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown, during which period we started a small online discussion group to exchange ideas and ongoing research amongst archaeologists. This gradually evolved into regular discussion meetings, short online courses and a lecture series, that we share with you here.
